Fashion Photography Calgary

Last week we had another fashion photography shoot with APT22 in Calgary cataloguing some more of the amazing clothing that they offer. Kim Stern the boutique owner and stylist was on set which is always a bonus as she is so fast at styling her fashion models. Kim had just got back from purchasing items in Los Angeles with an array amazing clothes so it’s always exciting to see them on professional fashion models.
Set Design for Fashion Photography Shoot
The first images of Summer we took for APT22 were outdoors and using natural light. These images were taken really quickly and we just used the area around the store without too much planning before hand. The studio shots were in our creative space and made up of Hollywood flats set up as a corner with clean and white walls and flooring. There were more thoughts and planning going into the studio shots as there are a lot of options, control and direction available in a studio setting.
Modifiers and equipment for Fashion Photography Shoot
For outdoors obviously we used the sun, diffusion and architecture to alter the lighting.
The creative space studio lighting was courtesy of Broncolor using two Siros 800 S monolights with a Mola Demi Beauty dish with diffusion on one light and the Bron 150 Ocatabox with double diffusion on the other. We use the Broncolor RFS2.2 trigger with the Siros lights.
We just received a Broncolor Para 133 modifier which got some use also. The Para works differently than pretty much every modifier that we have used before so it was fun to get some mileage in on the light. Definitely some more practice will be had before we start extracting the most from this light but we can say for fashion shoots especially where clothing is a focus this is an incredible modifier.
We did also use a Godox AD600 with no diffusion and a 7 inch reflector for a couple of hard light shots.
The camera used was a Canon 5D mkiii and switching between Canon 50mm f1.4, 85mm f1.2 and 24-70 f4 lenses. We did shoot tethered most of the time using a tether tools cable and a Macbook Pro.
We also had a Fujifilm XT2 sitting there to get some 4k video footage but we didn’t get around to taking any but we are keen to see how the video looks using the Fuji but that will wait for another day.
Our c-stand was rolling around on a new StrobePro rolling base and that was just awesome. They are based in calgary, the build quality is fantastic and the prices are reasonable so what more could you ask. The staff are very nice also which is important to us.
These are pretty quick fashion photography shoots where we get a lot of outfits done in a short period of time and they are always a lot of fun. Here are a few images from the day
