Fashion look book photo shoot behind the scenes with photography by Katherine Calnan and clothing by APT22.

In this HD video is a behind the scenes for a fashion look book that I recently did with APT22, a boutique clothing store in Calgary.
Our beautiful model for the day was Tessa Greiner.

Fashion look book photo shoot behind the scenes

Fashion look book behind the scenes look at the setup with some images and explanation about the lighting arrangement and camera settings. Examples of the fashion look book images are also shown.
Minimal to no photo retouching was done to any of the images with the majority of them being in camera images. The lighting setup, settings and of course model all make this possible. With fashion look books the number of images are very high so for efficiency and productivity speed throughout the whole assignment from beginning to end is really important. If you are working on a set price for all of the fashion look book photography work then you will maximize your profits by reducing the amount of time you spend processing images after shoot and freeing yourself up for more paid work or maybe just going to the beach and enjoying some free time. Even if you get a per image price then the less time you’re sitting in front of a computer processing images the better your financial return will work out to be over a time frame and more enjoyable as well.

Depending on the size of client that you are working for with on a fashion look book they may be on a strict timeline themselves especially for smaller stores that want to get new product listed and selling as soon as possible. So by being efficient and still producing really high quality work you can build a great relationship with a happy client and in turn build your own brand and reputation.

So by spending the time to have your creative space working as well as you can get it with the resources you are able to source you will make for a much smoother and easier work flow for yourself and the client.

Many of the fashion look books I have done have been very fast paced as far as how much content you are capturing and producing in a period of time. Having an experienced model makes this a lot easier and quicker still. Even looking back at my own work flow and speed now compared to a couple of years ago, I now produce much much higher quality work and with way less wasted images in one hour than I would have in four or five hours two years ago. So as you can see for both the client and myself this is a win win situation. They spend less time, I spend less time and the work produced is very high quality still.

You really have to jump in feet first with this type of work sometimes when you start out and get used to the higher pace while still making sure you are making your lighting work with the model that you are working with. Experience, technical know how is really important as is being able to direct, listen to and work with your model and client so that you tick all of the boxes.
