Much of my time as a child and young adult was spent at ice skating rinks and competitions. After university though I stopped skating for a long time and recently our family had been skating quite often and this is a short film recorded on a frozen lake near Canmore Alberta.

Along with photography we also do a certain amount of videography work and this was us having some fun skating and combining some film as well. This day was exceptionally windy with wind warnings across the province and we wanted to create some video that captured some of that rawness of the environment while at the same time watching the grace and peacefulness that is present within the turbulence of nature, figure skating and the human experience.
